March 29, 2010 - PRLog -- The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester joined an estimated 1 billion people around the globe - from Beijing, China to the Arctic Circle - as they turned out the lights in observation of Earth Hour from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 27.

Earth Hour, now in its third year, asks everyone on the planet to turn out the lights for one hour to bring attention to climate change. The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester hosted a special observance in the hotel’s Lobby Lounge with “green” cocktails and glo-lights. The hotel’s famous tower was lit green in honor of the event and lights went out from 8:30- 9:30 p.m.

“We hope that this symbolic gesture will encourage people to take personal steps to cut their energy use and reduce their carbon footprint – an important step in reversing the damage to our planet caused by carbon emissions,’’ said Marcie McGeehan, Sales & Marketing Manager for The Ritz-Carlton, Westchester. “Earth Hour is in keeping with Ritz-Carlton, Westchester’s green policy. The hotel was recently designated a 3 Green Leaf Hotel by the Audubon Society.’’
