March 23, 2010 - PRLog -- Carbondale, Illinois and Boulder, Colorado - Antoinette Lettiere and James Schmidt have been selected by the Council on Undergraduate Research to present at the 2010 National Conference "Posters-on-the Hill" April 13, 2010 in the Sam Rayburn Office Building in Washington, D.C. Their poster will highlight work accomplished by students from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, in partnership with Adventures in Preservation, to create affordable housing by restoring historic shotgun-style houses in Cairo, Illinois.

Ms. Lettiere and Mr. Schmidt took the lead, working with approximately 30 other architecture and history students during the summer to complete repair and restoration of the first house selected for this program. This house will initially serve as an office for the affordable housing program and within several years will be sold to a family in need of affordable housing.

Work will begin on the second project house at Adventures in Preservation’s workshop to be held June 13-26, 2010. The public is welcome to join students and community members in preparing this house for use as affordable housing. See http://www.adventuresinpreservation.org/ws-cairo-2010.htm for more information about joining the project.
