VoltStar Technologies and ChannelVission launch a true zero-waste charger

March 22, 2010 - PRLog -- Santa Clara, CA., - March 22, 2010, ChannelVission™, a global business development company, has partnered with VoltStar Technologies Inc., to launch its new zero-waste EcoCharger into the mobile service provider market.  Announced at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in January, the product is now ready to ship in support of the industry’s green initiatives.

The increasing importance and visibility of green initiatives, combined with standardization in the mobile communications market make this a very timely introduction.  An agreement reached among the leading mobile communications manufacturers, including cell phones, headsets and other peripherals on the standard micro-USB connector means that consumers will no longer need multiple, separate chargers for each device.  That alone will help reduce costs, by reducing the number of chargers each person needs, but will help to reduce waste.

The AT&T ZERO charger works by automatically sensing when a mobile phone is not plugged to the charger and cutting the power supply from the wall socket. Unfortunately, this only eliminates a portion of the energy wasted in charging cell phones. Most mobile devices charge within one to two hours. As the majority of mobile users charge their phone whilst they're asleep, typically between six and eight hours, the AT&T ZERO charger still wastes a lot of energy. In contrast, the VoltStar zero-waste EcoCharger senses when a mobile phone is fully charged and then automatically disconnects the charger from the AC outlet, a true zero-waste solution. The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that in the average home nearly 75% of all electricity used to power electronics is consumed by products that are switched off and the average U.S. household spends $100 per year to power devices while they are off (or in standby mode). A mobile industry task force determined in 2006 that if 10% of the world’s cell phone owners unplugged their charger once there phone was fully charged it would reduce energy consumption equivalent by an amount of 60,000 homes per year.
