-- An important but often overlooked category of service providers is the Tier-2 or mid-sized service provider that are in the US $100milion to US $1 Billion revenue range. Despite their smaller operating scale, these service providers play an important role. According to our market research and our customer base, ChannelVission is expecting this segment of non-tier 1 to generate an upto $9.6B in incremental revenue by 2015/2016. The main fuel for the growth of this segment is Small Cells, access gear(wifi), s/w based routers and switches, as well as cloud based play which will reduce the capex ownership in local premises and will give a more robust growth to centralized play. Sharing and virtualization and pay as you go approach will lead the efforts for tier-2 service provider success.
The second tier operators have an opportunity to create the new business models needed for the wire line and wireless market of the future. It is built around debt restructuring, reducing cost, and investment in new access technology. Many of today's tier-2 service providers have developed a level of technical capabilities and prowess that allows them to go head-to-head with larger providers when competing for business. What these tier-2 service providers lack in size and scale are made up of their local presence and high level of services required by data users.
Most of the organizations don’t understand how to play in the tier-2 service provider spaces, what it takes to be successful and what resources are required to be effective. Mobility (connected anywhere)space will fuel the growth of tier-2 at an alarming rate in the next 14- 22 months.
