Feb. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- On February 13, 2010 thousands of romantics from across the world tuned into one website for a free screening of "Broken Hearts Club," creator Angelo Bell's 2006 short film about love and heartbreak. The free online screening of the critically acclaimed short film helped launch the worldwide distribution of "The Broken Hearts Club" -- the six-episode miniseries -- in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, South Africa, France and Italy.

"Broken Hearts Club" tells the story of six couples on the verge of breaking up who turn to a therapist for help. While the short film was constructed as a series of monologues, the mini-series takes the story further by leaps and bounds. In the miniseries, Dr. Terrence N. Thiebold (Tank Jones) is a former All-American linebacker and now a leading criminal psychiatrist. He’s hugely successful in treating the criminally insane, but avoids more emotional conflicts like the plague.

With all his advanced degrees, Terrence is completely unprepared for the never-ending procession of misguided, melodramatic couples in the midst of tumultuous break-ups. Terrence’s new patients — the foul-mouthed, the sexually unsatisfied, the career-obsessed, the lonely and the hopeless — drag him through an abyss of professional frustrations. The drama intensifies when Terrence is offered a job at a prestigious clinic contingent upon his successful results with his new patients. When Terrence’s wife (played by Zane's Sex Chronicles' Maya Gilbert) wants him to take the new job his work problems follow him home, placing his marriage in jeopardy.

Viewers of both films will see many differences as well as certain similarities in the cast. The storyline and script remain strong and true to its critical acclaim.  Adam Stephen Kelly of Screenjabber.com commented: I am in awe. One of the best independent films I’ve ever seen. The writing is absolutely fantastic. It is truly excellent. Well shot, rich colour, and not a hokey performance in sight. Outstanding.

Pericles Lewnes of CurrenTV stated: I watched Broken Hearts Club with my wife and we were so engaged in the characters and performances my wife actually shed tears. What an incredible indie film!

To celebrate the success of global television distribution (potentially 90 million households in multiple countries) Angelo freely released the short film version on his website at http://www.AngeloBell.com/channel/. Timing was perfect for Valentine's Day as thousands flocked to the website to watch the film for hope in the area of love and romance. Why is the miniseries so popular? View the trailer here:

The miniseries is also available on Amazon in feature film format. Angelo is diligently working on script ideas for season two of "The Broken Hearts Club," which he hoped to shoot entirely in Hawaii. The second season is tentatively called Broken Hearts Club II: Trouble in Paradise.

Why did Mr. Bell make a valuable short film available for on the web? He confesses, "The most important thing for a filmmaker is to have his/her work seen. With the success of the miniseries I thought it would be cool for people to see how the idea was born."

"The Broken Hearts Club" has aired as a miniseries on AMGTV and soon makes its way to Simply Me TV in the U.S. and Global Broadcasting Network in Europe. However, since February 13, 2010 those hungry for the short film version need look no further than the Internet.
