Feb. 18, 2010 - PRLog -- A Swansea Art Gallery is appealing to the local community this week by organising a series of free events and activities for the half term holidays.

Throughout the week the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery has arranged for local artists to come along and share their skills with children of all ages and abilities from around the Swansea area and to take part in free art and craft workshops.

The workshops allow children to experience something different and learn skills that they wouldn’t necessarily be able to try at school such as mask and model making with the original Head of Props from Doctor Who, Mark Cordory.

Children’s workshops have taken place at the Art Gallery on Alexandra Road during the school holidays since last summer and they continue to be very popular.

On Saturday 20 February visitors to the Gallery will be entertained by TSP Voices choir, a Community First choir made up of parents and children from the Trevethin, St.Cadoc and Pen-y-Garn areas in South East Wales.

The concert will begin at 1pm and the choir will be sharing some of their favourite self penned songs, accompanied by award winning singer songwriter Cheryl Beer.

Also on Saturday the Gallery will host a mixed group of 11-19 year olds, who will be taking part in free one off workshops with ‘Young Brits at Art’.

‘Young Brits at Art’ is a national arts awards competition for 11-19 year olds from all backgrounds and walks of life who live in Wales, England and Scotland.

Individuals from Swansea Foyer and Swansea Drugs Project will be amongst those who will be taking part the project.

The scheme allows under privileged youngsters and teenagers with vulnerable backgrounds to take part in the national competition to illustrate what they think the world would look like if we lived without prejudice.

Learning Assistant for the Glynn Vivian Tom Goddard said “It is a great privilege for us at the Gallery to be able to offer the workshops to these teenagers and I am excited be a part of this project and to see what the produce.”
