Rhydian Roberts and The Automatic to headline

Swansea is getting ready to raise the roof off the city with a great selection of bands and artists for the St David’s Week Festival, Wales’ only week long celebration of our Patron Saint.

Jan. 22, 2010 - PRLog -- Welsh rock band The Automatic, are opening the Festival on Monday 22 February at the Brangwyn Hall.  The 4-piece band from Cowbridge, are stopping off in Swansea during a busy British tour to launch their third album, ‘Tear the Signs Down’ recorded in Cardiff during 2009 and are playing a one-off show at Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall to launch the St David’s Week Festival 2010.  

The band’s explosive live performances have earned rave reviews across the country and will give their Welsh fans a chance to hear tracks from the new album as well as crowd favourites such as ‘Monster’,’ Recover’ and ‘Steve McQueen’.  

The Brangwyn Hall is set to rock out again on Tuesday, 23 February when 5 of Wales’ brightest bands take to the stage for Welsh Band Night. Celebrate Wales with over three hours of crashing guitars, banging drums anthemic choruses and soaring vocals.

Killing for Company, a rock four piece including Stuart Cable, ex Stereophonics drummer are headlining the night with an explosive set: Audiocalm recently voted best emerging band in the UK: Cuba Cuba, the latest powerful melodic rock band to emerge from the South Wales Valleys; Tiger Please, a young Welsh five piece set for big things in 2010:  A New Day, 4 piece punk rock band who are making waves with their “soaring melodies, crushing guitars and emotive delivery”.

Swansea welcomes one of Wales’ best selling Welsh Language singers, Meinir Gwilym on Thursday, 25 February to perform a live acoustic set in the unique surroundings of the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery.  This is a free event and not to be missed.

Milkwood Jam are hosting Wales’ leading contemporary poet Patrick Jones on Monday, 1 March to perform a unique selection of his works backed by the musicians Dean and Kevin Meyrick.  His work includes the poetry collections ‘The Guerrilla Tapestry’ and ‘Fuse’, the CD of spoken word and music ‘Tongues for a Stammering Time’ and the plays ‘Everything Must Go’ and ‘The War is Dead Long Live the War’.

The festival will close in dramatic style on March 1st at the Brangwyn Hall when Morriston Orpheus Choir and the Chamber Orchestra of Wales conducted by Alwyn Humphries will be joined by  2007 X Factor finalist Rhydian Roberts. This unique collaboration will produce a memorable night of music to celebrate St David’s day.
