Oct. 19, 2009 - PRLog -- Research conducted by AutoStats has revealed that young drivers between 17-24 are more likely to service their own car or take it to a friend to service than anyone else. With this age group also being the most likely to be involved in a serious incident on the road, car maintenance is of upmost importance to safety and it is being ignored as money gets tighter.

Coupled with more than four in ten young drivers not having breakdown cover, the consequence of poorly maintained cars can be terrible. 45% of those asked cited the cost as being the reason for not having breakdown coverage.

Michael Temali-Smith, of AutoStats, said “young drivers are putting finances before safety and with the more difficult driving conditions of winter coming, it is very concerning.”

32% of people in this age group drive cars over ten years old. With 28% of these cars being maintaining by either the driver or by a friend, young drivers are putting themselves at risk because the cost of driving a car is higher than ever before.
