Defining Urban Culture In The Uk

Oct. 7, 2009 - PRLog -- A group of promoters and artists have come together to discuss the term “urban”  On October 29th the steering committee for the up coming Urban Fashion and Music conference will look at the use of the word urban and what it means in today’s society.

The meeting will take place during the Black International Film Festival in Birmingham England.  Community leaders, entertainers, actors, models and businesses will network and share ideas.  The meeting will take place at 7pm at the Hockley Bar and Kitchen in the jewelry quarter.

The goal of the meeting is to set a positive and welcoming atmosphere for the upcoming UFM Conference in the Summer of 2010.  Organizers of the event have met with some opposition due to the use of the word Urban.  Some feel that the word could make some feel excluded from the multi-cultural fashion and music event.    

In past years the conference has taken place in New York and Houston.  In it’s previous incarnation the conference was known as the T.U.N.E music seminar and the 3rd Coast Conference (TTCC).  Past guests and sponsors read like the who’s who of music.  Sponsors such as Def Jam, Roc-a-Fella records, Sony, Bad Boy, Wu-Wear, Dada and others have supported this urban music extravaganza.  Past guests include KRS One, Kool Herc and Mathew Knowles (Beyonce Knowles’ Father) Quiz Media plans to make the UFM Conference as big in the UK as it was in the US.
