| Indoor fun to raise dampened spirits in SwanseaPLENTY of indoor fun and activities have been made available this summer holidays to help keep boredom at bay on rainy days.
By: City and County of Swansea Educational and enjoyable events are on hand at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery, Swansea Museum, the Dylan Thomas Centre and the West Glamorgan Archive Service. The crime and punishment exhibition at Swansea Museum chronicles a rich history of robbers, thieves, murderers and protestors. Visitors can also pose for photos in stocks and stare at mug-shots of some of Swansea's most infamous law-breakers. Free Art workshops for children have been arranged throughout the summer break at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in addition to a Mark Wallinger exhibition featuring a mirrored sculpture of the iconic TARDIS from Dr Who. Exhibits from the Swansea Open art competition are also on display at the Alexandra Road attraction and younger visitors are invited to follow a detective trail of clues around the exhibition to take a closer look at the works. And people interested in the life and times of Swansea's most famous son can make a trip to the Dylan Thomas Centre to explore the Man and Myth exhibition and find out about other available activities. Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: "The weather here in the UK is so unpredictable nowadays and this is why it's vital we have high-quality indoor attractions that offer exhibitions and events that cater for the whole family. "A great deal of thought has gone into making facilities such as the Glynn Vivian and Swansea Museum more appealing to children and the events to have been organised are as enjoyable as they are educational. "The combination of such venues with attractions like Plantasia, our community leisure centres and the range of other indoor fun that's organised means there's always plenty to do come rain or shine." Adults looking to escape the rain and find a new hobby may also like to start researching the history of their families or towns at the West Glamorgan Archive Service in the Civic Centre. The online archive catalogue for Wales now has a new look and is easier to use than ever before. It's available at www.archiveswales.org.uk and includes up-to-date news and a daily feature looking back into Welsh history.
