Plenty of talent at Swansea Open 2009

July 29, 2009 - PRLog -- The Glynn Vivian Art Gallery is open this Friday night, to showcase the diverse wealth of artistic talent that the City and County of Swansea has to offer.

The Swansea Open is an annual art competition where residents and employees living and working in the Swansea area get the chance to have their work exhibited by the Gallery from Saturday 1 August through to Saturday 12 September.

You can get a preview glimpse of the exhibition this Friday 31 July at 7pm, as the winners of the competition are announced.

From the hundreds of entries, one winner is chosen from the selected artwork and receives a cash prize of £250, with runner up prizes of £150 and £100.

Each year sees a diverse range of work submitted, with hundreds of entries from artists, both professional and amateur, with a variety of different techniques and styles.

This year’s selector is Amanda Farr, Director of Oriel Davies Gallery, Newtown, Powys who carefully decided which pieces were to be exhibited, and the prize winners.

Amanda Farr commented, “It has been an honour and great pleasure to have been able to select this year’s Swansea Open. I was hugely impressed by the quality, variety and creativity apparent in the work submitted. The Open clearly shows the wealth of talented artists that are based in Swansea.”

Younger visitors will also get the chance to do a bit of detective work as the Gallery has devised an Art Detective Trail for this years’ Swansea Open. Children of all ages can follow the clues around the exhibition and take a closer look at the selected works on display.

Some the work will be available for sale, so if you enjoy art, there is something at the Gallery for you and all the family to enjoy this summer.
