NECC 2009: Web Filtering Company, Bloxx, to Raise Awareness of Escalating Use of Anonymous Proxies

Internet Filtering Specialist to Exhibit at North America’s Leading Educational Technology Event in Washington D.C., 28 June – 1 July 2009

June 25, 2009 - PRLog -- Bloxx, the Web content filtering specialist, today announced it will be exhibiting its third-generation Web filtering technology at next week’s National Education Computing Conference (NECC) to be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington, D.C. from 28 June – 1 July 2009. Bloxx is attending the show to highlight the increasing need for educational institutions to have appropriate Web filtering in place in order to manage Internet access and ensure a safe and productive learning environment, particularly amid the escalating use of anonymous proxies by students.

For almost three decades, NECC has been the premier forum in which to learn, exchange, and survey the field of educational technology. This annual conference—presented by ISTE and keyed to the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS)—features hands-on workshops, lecture-format and interactive concurrent sessions, discussions with key industry leaders, and the largest educational technology exhibit in the nation.

“There is no doubt that the Internet is an incredibly important and useful resource for education, yet if access is not managed correctly it also has the potential to impact student productivity, expose young people to inappropriate or offensive material and pose a significant security threat to an IT network,“ explains Bloxx CEO, Eamonn Doyle. “Even though most Educational establishments now have Web filtering in place, many are finding that students are all too easily bypassing the filter using Anonymous Proxies. Once connected to one of these sites, they are free to surf the Internet completely unmonitored.”

Anonymous proxy sites are quickly becoming the most popular and easiest way for students to bypass Internet filtering. Earlier this year, Bloxx announced the results from its annual Anonymous Proxy Security Survey which revealed 90% of education IT respondents deem anonymizers a problem.

Hundreds of anonymous proxies are created each week and it has become apparent that blocking them using traditional Web filters, which rely heavily on lists of URLs, is simply no longer effective. Bloxx Tru-View Technology deploys a multi-layered approach to Web filtering, combining the best of conventional Web filtering methods with real-time contextual analysis, identification and categorization of Web pages, which delivers unsurpassed levels of detection and blocking of anonymous proxies.

Ken Lewis Vice President of Sales and Marketing, from Interwork Technologies, Bloxx’s premier channel partner in North America comments:

“NECC is the most important event of the year for education technology specialists. It gives Bloxx the ideal opportunity to raise awareness about the issue of anonymous proxies and the importance of Web filtering in the education environment,” comments Lewis.

“Bloxx’s Tru-View Technology is the only viable way to keep up-to-date with the continued growth of the Internet and its ever changing nature. By deploying a reliable Web filtering solution, schools and further education establishments can ensure the Internet is used to their advantage,” concludes Lewis.

Many schools and further education institutes have already reaped substantial benefits from implementing the Bloxx solution, including Schoharie Central School District in New York, Chesapeake Academy in Maryland and Woods Services in Pennsylvania.

About Bloxx Tru-View Technology
Bloxx Tru-View Technology uses internationally patent pending technology to analyze and categorize Web pages quicker and more accurately than other Web filters which use manual URL classification and keyword scoring alone.

Bloxx Tru-View Technology helps organizations proactively manage users’ access to Web content which might lower productivity, expose the organization to risk and liability or pose a network security threat.

An estimated 1.5 million + users already benefit from enhanced security and performance with low administration and no cost per user charges. Additional protection is provided via anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-phishing functionality.
