Learn how MAC is able to provide this level of service...
By: Rob Rohena, DIR Inc. MAC is run by owner Jim Geimer and professional colleague Nancy Russell. MAC’s leadership is especially noteworthy as both Jim and Nancy are Northwestern University, (NU) alumni, (2 degrees each), with significant experience in business. The story of this successful small company is even more interesting when you learn that Jim and Nancy are a father-daughter team. Jim Geimer has spent nearly 20 years facilitating professional groups. Geimer has substantial expertise in coaching executives, managing entrepreneurial businesses, and turning around troubled companies. He has 40 years experience in managing manufacturing and distribution companies. Geimer started his career with KPMG Peat Marwick and later served as Executive VP and COO of Weber Stephen Products Co., manufacturer of the famous Weber grill. With the support of a Chick Evans Caddy Scholarship from the Western Golf Association, Geimer received his BS in Accounting and his MBA from Northwestern University and is a Certified Public Accountant. Nancy recalls, "As a child, I visited NU so often that I saw only purple when filling out my college applications." The family roots stretch a little deeper when you learn that another Geimer daughter works part time doing lots of administrative work for the company. The family work ethic and genuine concern for the members seems to makes all the difference in the world. MAC brings together professionals and facilitates monthly half-day meetings. The confidential discussions focus on specific group members' issues and general topics of interest pertinent to that group. The meeting sites rotate among the members' businesses where tours are sometimes conducted so that the group may offer feedback on a specific area of concern or targeted improvement. The goal for each group and facilitator is simple: "to meet each member’s needs for information and education to improve their skills, their company's operations, and corporate results." says Jim. In addition, group members become confidantes, friends, and an unlimited source of experience. No matter what the circumstance or problem, Management Advisory Council can usually provide the answer or referral a member may need. On a periodic basis, pertinent resources are brought into each group's meetings for presentations that clarify and enhance your knowledge on a key subject of interest to all. On an annual basis, MAC brings together its four groups for a large group event with a speaker of interest to all. This year, the MAC members and guest will hear the author of seven customer service books, guru Cary Cavitt. Cary will be speaking in Bannockburn, Illinois on the topic: "Excellent Leadership Through Excellent People Skills". Cary is near completion of another book with the same title.
