Fans Can Vote Online to Help IAN Win Internet's Top Honor
By: Pro Bono Net
Hailed as the "Internet's highest honor" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet.
The Immigration Advocates Network (IAN) is a free national online network that supports legal advocates working on behalf of immigrants' rights. It was developed by Pro Bono Net, a national nonprofit dedicated to increasing access to justice, and 10 leading immigration advocacy organizations, with support from the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
"Nominees like Immigration Advocates Network are setting the standard for innovation and creativity on the Internet," said David-Michel Davies, executive director of the Webby Awards. "It is an incredible achievement to be selected among the best from the nearly 10,000 entries we received this year."
“IAN is deeply honored to receive this recognition. It is a tribute to a remarkable collaborative effort inspired by the promise of web-based information sharing and the vast experience of Pro Bono Net,” said IAN Project Director Debbie Smith. “Our goal is to knit together the expertise of the country’s leading immigration advocacy organizations, to harness technology in support of immigrants’ rights and to provide a platform for disseminating information immediately and effectively.”
“A year after its launch, IAN is providing more than 3,300 advocates in fifty states with crucial information and collaboration tools,” said IAN Project Coordinator Matthew Burnett. “Regardless of their physical location, those working for immigrants’ rights can benefit from desktop access to high quality resources including training manuals, videos, podcasts and webinars; sample materials; timely news and alerts; and online tools to facilitate greater communication and collaboration among advocates.”
As a nominee, IAN is also eligible to win a Webby People's Voice Award, which is voted online by the global Web community. From now until April 30th, IAN fans can cast their votes in The Webby People's Voice Awards at http://pv.webbyawards.com
Winners will be announced on May 5th, 2009 and honored at a star-studded ceremony in New York City on June 8th. The Webby Awards is presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, a 650-person judging academy whose members include Internet co-inventor Vinton Cerf, R/GA's Chief Bob Greenberg, "Simpson's" creator Matt Groening, Arianna Huffington, and Harvey Weinstein.
