HSPI Hosts Discussion on Homeland Security Priorities for the 111th Congress

Feb. 19, 2009 - PRLog -- GW’s Homeland Security Policy Institute (HSPI) will host  a Policy and Research Forum Discussion to address key Homeland Security priorities for the 111th Congress.  This discussion is part of the HSPI Policy and Research Forum Series, which is designed to spotlight cutting-edge policy solutions and innovative strategies to some of the most pressing national and international concerns.

As the Department of Homeland Security transitions from one presidential administration to the next for the first time in its history, how will Congress prioritize a myriad of homeland security concerns? Will FEMA continue to reside under DHS? Will Members seek to again bring immigration reform to the fore? With Democratic majorities in both Houses of Congress and a Democratic White House, will Republican views on homeland security issues be heard? In a time of economic recession, what can Congress realistically achieve in the arena of homeland security?  Four key staff members from the House and Senate homeland security committees will provide answers to these and other important and timely questions, as well as outline the agendas of the committees for the 111th Congress.
