| A real song and dance at Penyrheol TheatreLocal dance groups from the South Wales area will be descending on Penyrheol Theatre as the 30th annual Swansea Dance Festival brings children and adults together in a competition of classical and contemporary dance.
By: City & County of Swansea The Maria Evans Academy of Dance from Pentrehafod is one of those groups taking part and is hoping to emanate last year’s successes by reaching the All England Dance Finals in London later this year. Maria Evans has been taking part in the Festival every year since its beginning and this year has approximately 50 dancers competing in tap, modern, ballet and song & dance, in both solo and group performances. Maria said, “We have been preparing for the Festival since November, and the dancers are really starting to get excited about this year’s competition. They get a real sense of teamwork and camaraderie when taking part in such a prestigious event, and come away with a huge feeling of achievement and satisfaction.” “Dancing instils so much confidence within the children and is a great, fun way of keeping healthy and fit. Even when they don’t win, the students feel they have learnt some valuable lessons and are proud that they have given their all.” The Swansea Dance Festival will be running throughout the half term holidays from Saturday 15 – Friday 20 February at Penyrheol Theatre in Penyrheol Leisure Centre. Tickets start from £2.60 per session and can be purchased from the Theatre Box Office on 01792 897039. # # # News about activities, events and attractions in Swansea, Wales, UK.
