Oct. 20, 2008 - PRLog -- Hazendal Wine Estate (http://www.hazendal.co.za) is proud to announce its new role as the wine of choice on board two of the world’s premier airlines – Royal Jordanian Air, the national air carrier of Jordan and Comair operating for British Airways in South Africa.

Hazendal’s excellent 2003 Shiraz was chosen from a range of tough contenders to be the beverage of choice in all business class departments on all international Royal Jordanian flights. Negotiated through Alpha Catering, the company responsible for all Royal Jordanian’s catering needs, this new contract is set to hopefully extend far into the future with many other Hazendal wines also to be taken on board.

The Hazendal Chenin Blanc 2007 is now the wine of choice for South African British Airways carriers Comair and will be on offer to all economy class passengers travelling around the country. Operated by LSG Catering, Comair is the preferred national carrier for business people in South Africa, with their wine of choice showcasing their commitment to quality in all aspects of the Comair flying experience.

More about Hazendal Wine Estate

Hazendal is one of the Western Cape’s oldest wine farms and has been producing quality wines for over a decade. With many awards to its name, a Hazendal vintage is one of fine ingredients and eclectic quality. Now owned by Russian entrepreneur Dr Mark Voloshin, this wine estate fuses two cultures to produce unique and sought-after vintages.

More about the Wines

Hazendal’s Shiraz comes from 20 year old vineyards and is matured in French oak barrels for a full year. The result is a layered and spicy wine that is an ideal accompaniment for a meat dish or to be enjoyed on its own while relaxing on board of an aeroplane. The Hazendal Shiraz has also been awarded the revered John Platter 4 Star Rating, meaning that resides amongst the highest quality wines in South Africa.

The Hazendal Chenin Blanc is made from specially cultivated bushvines which creates a delightful straw-coloured wine. This complex wine is well-balanced with fruit, vanilla and herbal flavours and offers a refreshing treat on any flight. Awarded four stars from Wine Magazine, the Hazendal Chenin Blanc is said to be an “excellent, wine of distinction” and was also labelled a quality best buy by the Best Value Wine Guide. This wine was also recognised as one of South Africa’s best at the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show, receiving a bronze medal for its fine character.

Hazendal’s wines are no stranger to awards and even their winemaker, Ronell Wiid, has been recognised for her skill when she was named Diners Club very first female Winemaker of the Year. With top-rated John Platter vintages, Michelangelo Gold Medal winners as well as International Wine and Spirit Competition medallists in its cellars, Hazendal wines are fine representatives for the South African wine industry and will do the country proud as they travel the globe with Royal Jordanian Air.

More about the Airlines

Royal Jordanian Airlines was established under royal decree in 1963 and aims to be a bridge across which culture, trade, technology and friendship can be exchanged between Jordan and the rest of the world. Today the airline flies passengers to 54 different destinations on four continents and is a premium member of the prestigious oneworld airline alliance.

Comair has over 50 years experience in the aviation industry and in 1996 was taken over by British Airways. Now a premium national carrier in South Africa as well as the listed holding company for low-cost airline kulula.com, British Airways Comair is a proud Hazendal partner and representative of quality in the country.

The Future

The popularity and quality of Hazendal’s 2003 Shiraz has led to the vintage selling out rapidly. Royal Jordanian Airlines are set to order more wines for their fleet of aircrafts and Alpha Catering is currently sampling the 2004 Shiraz. The Alpha Group “will be very happy to order more, should the 2004 live up to excellency of the 2003” says Flight-CEO Lionel Wilton.
