Since August 2008, Indonesia’s Jakarta Mainboard Index and Jakarta Islamic Index plunged 12.6% and 21.9%, respectively, on global cues.  This was a result of global economic turmoil that was fuelled by US credit crisis, which continued to haunt the equity markets worldwide. Bank Indonesia raised its benchmark interest rates by 25 basis point in an attempt to tighten its monetary policy in the wake of high inflation. This, however, would lead to a decline in the economic growth.
