World Insulation Forecasts to 2011 & 2016

Global demand for insulation materials is expected to expand 4.9 percent per year to $33.4 billion in 2011, with volume demand reaching 20.1 million square meters of R-1 value

Dec. 1, 2007 - PRLog -- Linked closely with new building construction, and also impacted by climatic and economic development factors, consumption of insulation will remain concentrated in North America and Western Europe, which together accounted for nearly three-fifths of total demand in 2006. Nevertheless, these are also the slowest growing regional markets for insulation, trailing gains in the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), Latin America, Eastern Europe and Africa/Mideast regions.
Asia/Pacific to pace global regional demand
The most rapid growth in insulation demand will continue to occur in the Asia/Pacific region, driven largely by increases in China and India, two of the world’s largest emerging economies. Demand will benefit from strong building construction activity and increasing frequency of use. The expanding production of refrigerators, freezers and other insulation- sing appliances in the region will also boost consumption.
Foamed plastics to remain dominant material
Foamed plastics are the most widely used insulation material, accounting for nearly half of value demand in dollar terms in 2006. Unlike other insulation products (primarily mineral wool and fiberglass) that are heavily concentrated in particular geographic regions, plastic foam insulation materials are produced and sold worldwide, and are suitable for use in all market applications, including both residential and nonresidential construction, as well as appliances, heating and cooling equipment and other products. Other factors, including rising energy prices and government regulations, will positively impact demand for insulation materials as well. This is particularly true in Western Europe and North America, where gains in demand are partially dependent upon the adoption of standards that call for higher building insulation levels. Higher heating and cooling costs provide consumers with a strong incen- tive to improve the energy efficiency of their buildings.
Study coverage
This new industry study, World Insulation, is priced at $5500. Historical data (1996, 2001, 2006) plus forecasts to 2011 and 2016 are provided for insulation by material, by geographic region and for 20 individual countries. Demand is presented in millions of US dollars and millions of square meters of R-1 value. The study also considers market environment factors, evaluates market shares and profiles 38 global industry competitors
