![]() Rethinking city traffic: new e-vehicle relies on maintenance-free polymer bearings from igusDesign engineers of the new JetBike improve riding experience and sustainability with lubrication-free iglidur plain bearings.
By: igus® Singapore The JetBike offers a unique solution: a fully enclosed, car-like e-bike that requires no license, tax, or insurance. Designed for ease of use and minimal upkeep, it addresses a key concern for commuters—maintenance. Traditional metal bearings, prone to corrosion and dirt accumulation, were ruled out early in development. Instead, JetBike GmbH chose lubrication- "Metal bearings just didn't make sense for city traffic," says Enno Hecker, CEO of JetBike GmbH. "We needed something reliable, clean, and maintenance- igus's iglidur polymer bearings are used throughout the JetBike—from steering components to seat adjustments and the patented tilting system. These bearings offer several advantages: no need for lubrication, resistance to dirt, shock absorption for smoother rides, and up to 80% less weight than metal alternatives. They're also cost-effective and environmentally friendly. Despite being a start-up, JetBike GmbH found a collaborative partner in igus. "They supported us from the start, even with small orders and custom sizes," Hecker recalls. "It made our design process faster and more efficient." As JetBike moves toward a near-series prototype, it stands as a symbol of the future—where mobility is sustainable, smart, and tailored to the needs of urban life.
