Technology without compromise: igus presents new PTFE-free & PFAS-tested products at plastics trade

GENTING LANE, Singapore - Nov. 13, 2025 - PRLog -- PFAS and PTFE (a subgroup of PFAS) have been integral to countless products for decades, from cookware to industrial components. These substances enable plain bearings to run dry without lubrication, but their slow decomposition raises environmental and health concerns. igus motion plastics—including plain bearings, gears, and linear systems—are designed for durability, chemical resistance, and low-friction dry operation. Traditionally, these relied on PFAS additives, but igus now offers 27 PTFE-free and PFAS-tested materials for injection molding, 3D printing, and bar stock. "Since 2025, we've achieved 75% of plain-bearing applications without PTFE," says Lars Butenschön, Head of iglidur Plain Bearing Technology at igus. All materials comply with strict PFAS thresholds and deliver proven performance, verified in igus' 5,500 m² test lab.

Technical Advantages Beyond Compliance
igus' PTFE-free materials outperform traditional options, reducing wear rates by up to 50% while preserving temperature stability and mechanical strength. The company is tripling its bearing and linear technology test lab to 1,500 m², ensuring continuous innovation.
