| Waves of Change Help Build Ronald McDonald House in Stony BrookA career milestone rooted in love, creativity, and compassion.
By: Long Island Locavore For decades, Tina Duffy provided hair dressing services from her home salon in St. James. The mother of four sons focused on raising her boys, making a home, and serving the community. Then her husband Gerard became ill and was diagnosed with ALS. Tina lost her husband Gerard, her friend and partner in life. Her world went silent. Before long she trusted that there was life on the other side of loss. Surrounded by the love of family and friends within the community, Tina looked to support her family and find the fortitude to continue. She didn't want to work alone. She wanted to surround herself with other stylists. Tina went to work at a local salon. Several months later, the opportunity to become a partner was met with enthusiasm by all. Tina's journey is documented in the spring 2025 issue of Emerge Women's Magazine where she is featured on the cover. The issue recognizes dozens of local women telling their story of resilience, beauty, and power. This project created by editor/photographer Katrina Murphy Cicero benefits the future location of a Ronald McDonald House in Stony Brook, NY. Tina and the compassionate team at Waves Salon are committed to volunteering their time and talents at Ronald McDonald House Charities offering complimentary services and moments of comfort to families staying at the New Hyde Park and Stony Brook Children's Hospital locations. The salon's mission is to bring dignity, beauty, and hope to those facing medical crisis with their children. Tina's career in the salon industry has been defined by her talent, tenacity, and passion for empowering others through beauty and confidence. Her role as partner at Waves Salon represents not only professional growth but also a commitment to cultivating a space where clients and stylists feel supported and inspired. Waves Salon Hauppauge is located at 542 Hauppauge Rd. #111, 631-724-0005. You can find them on Facebook and Instagram.
