BALTIMORE - Sept. 18, 2025 - PRLog -- The More Than a Fraction Foundation is continuing its mission to illuminate the often-overlooked history, culture and experience of Africans in America and African Americans before and after the Civil War. This is done by exploring the American history from an angle that centers on the narratives and contributions of Africans and African Americans, offering a comprehensive understanding. On September 19, 2025 the organization will be represented at the "From Acknowledgement to Action: Reparative Justice Summit" at the Phyllis Wheatley Heritage Center in St. Louis. In addition, the More Than a Fraction Foundation will join a panel on Wednesday October 8th at the "Engagement Scholarship Consortium International Conference" October 6 – 9th hosted by Virginia Tech. Each day from 8am – 5pm.

The More Than a Fraction Foundation was launched after the publication of a creative nonfiction book on the Fractions who were enslaved on the Smithfield and Solitude plantations which is the land where Virginia Tech is based. The creative account of the Fractions' lives is in this book titled "More Than a Fraction: Based on a True Story" (Amazon Books, Barnes & Nobles and Audible). Soon after her discovery, in 2015, she was asked to join the Board of Directors of the Smithfield-Preston Foundation which oversee the grounds of Historical Smithfield. Soon after joining the Board, she began helping the Smithfield-Preston foundation and Virginia Tech highlight the lives of the enslaved Africans and the displaced Indigenous peoples of that area. The More Than a Fraction Foundation continues that research into that generation of African Americans with collaborative and incredible support from learning institutions across the country
