EU REACH CMR Substances List Updated

GENEVA - Aug. 26, 2025 - PRLog -- SGS, the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published SafeGuardS 121.25, focusing on the European Union's (EU) revision of its Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Annex XVII list of carcinogenic, mutagenic or reprotoxic (CMR) category 1A or 1B substances.

The revisions prohibit the use of these substances in certain conditions and concentrations. Key highlights of the changes include:
- Adding five entries to Appendix 2 (Category 1B carcinogenic substances), including the flame retardant tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA)
- Including one substance in Appendix 4 (Category 1B mutagenic)
- Introducing 12 substances to Appendix 6 (Category 1B reprotoxic), including bisphenol AF (BPAF) and two dibutyltin compounds

These amendments will apply from September 1, 2025. The exemption of cumene, when present as a substance on its own or as a constituent of other substances in kerosene or gasoline aviation fuel under certain conditions will be effective from 31 August 2025.
