By: OHRA Regalanlagen GmbH Bottleneck block storage Centernorma produces around 740,000 linear metres of various profiles, primarily for international markets. To store the timber, OHRA has already installed a 35 metre long cantilever racking system with a total storage capacity of over 170 tonnes in an initial phase. A second facility has now followed, in which Centernorma stores raw materials, semi-finished parts and, in some cases, finished products. Previously, these items were stored in block storage on pallets stacked on top of each other. However, this solution proved to be a bottleneck for production given the current production volume. This is because accessing individual pallets was cumbersome and time-consuming. In addition, the stacked pallets with the wooden goods took up too much space. Arbour bridges for greater flexibility With the new racking, Centernorma can now utilise the height of its production hall much better and thus create space in the area. The cantilever racks are around 5.5 metres high and offer up to four storage levels. The load capacity of each cantilever is 1,050 kilograms. The cantilever arms are equipped with arm bridges - this allows the various types of timber, which are still stored on pallets, to be positioned flexibly and space-savingly in the racking, regardless of their length. Increased productivity The investment in the racking system from OHRA quickly paid off for Centernorma. Space savings, easier access to material, faster production processes, free capacity for more orders - all in all, the new storage system has led to a significant increase in productivity in the production of high-quality laminated profiles.
