Direct Line to Sustainable Energy

KERPEN, Germany - Aug. 27, 2025 - PRLog -- er 50 percent of its future energy needs will be met by renewable wind power: In the presence of NRW Minister of Economic Affairs Mona Neubaur, Kerpen-based heavy-duty racking specialist OHRA officially inaugurated a direct connection to the Berrenrather Börde wind farm in Hürth. "This marks a milestone in our decarbonization strategy," emphasized Dr. Thomas Kießling, Chief Executive Officer of Hölscher Holding, of which OHRA is a member.

Part of a comprehensive transformation

The new 2,500‑meter, 20,000‑volt direct line will supply more than one million kilowatt hours of wind electricity annually. "We are following a clear transformation plan with a firm target: Net Zero by 2045," said Dr. Kießling. OHRA is preparing a series of additional measures, including the conversion of its building heating systems to heat pumps, electrification of powder coating and paint stripping facilities, expansion of photovoltaic systems, and the introduction of sustainable products.

Wind power for industry

To secure its supply of renewable electricity, OHRA has signed a direct power purchase agreement (PPA) with SL NaturEnergie, the operator of the Berrenrather Börde wind farm. Such direct supply models enable companies to source renewable energy locally and, as SL NaturEnergie Managing Director Klaus Schulze Langenhorst explains, "are an essential pillar for a successful energy transition." Since on-site PPAs are still relatively rare in Germany, both companies count among the pioneers of this forward-looking supply model, which also strengthens energy security, competitiveness, and grid stability by avoiding costly redispatch measures.

Mona Neubaur, NRW Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, highlighted: "Projects like this in Hürth bring together climate protection and economic viability, creating the foundation for a livable region with future-proof jobs and attractive conditions for investment."
