| ![]() Launch of the Irish Pipe Organ RegisterAiming to create a comprehensive listing of pipe organs in the Republic of Ireland
The IPOR aims to record details of all pipe organs in the Republic of Ireland, including those organs which no longer exist. The intention is to create a comprehensive register similar to what has been achieved by the UK's National Pipe Organ Register which contains details of more than 37,000 pipe organs. Although the number of instruments in this country is considerably less, it is estimated there are more than 1,000 pipe organs in existence. Creating a comprehensive register is a very ambitious goal and significant progress will only be made with the generous assistance of others. The pipe organs of Northern Ireland are already covered by the UK's NPOR. Any information about a pipe organ is welcome. This could include details such as the instrument's stops, historical notes, photographs, recordings or links on the Web. Even if a record only extends to a photograph of an organ taken from the floor of a church, it is better than nothing. Additions or corrections to existing records are also welcome.
