ASCLD Honors Dean Gialamas with 2025 Briggs J. White Award

GARNER, N.C. - May 16, 2025 - PRLog -- he American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD) proudly announces Dean Gialamas, of Fullerton, CA, as the recipient of the esteemed 2025 Briggs J. White Award. This accolade celebrates Mr. Gialamas's outstanding leadership in forensic science management, marking a testament to his unwavering commitment to excellence.

Dean Gialamas, D-ABC, a trailblazing leader in forensic science, is being recognized for his decades-long contributions to forensic laboratory excellence and leadership development. With a distinguished career spanning multiple leadership roles, Gialamas has shaped forensic science operations and accreditation standards across California and the United States.

Beginning his career as an intern at the Orange County Sheriff's Department in 1990, Gialamas quickly rose through the ranks to become Director of the OC Crime Laboratory in 2004, where he led one of the nation's first ISO/IEC 17025-accredited full-service forensic laboratories. His visionary leadership continued when he returned to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department (LASD) Crime Lab in 2010, managing a $50 million budget and overseeing 300 forensic specialists.

In recognition of his strategic and operational expertise, Gialamas ascended to Division Director of LASD's Division of Technical Services, where he guided technological advancements, forensic sciences, and crime analysis initiatives. Leading a workforce of over 1,100 personnel, his direction enhanced law enforcement capabilities and public safety operations across Los Angeles County.

Beyond his leadership in forensic laboratories, Gialamas has dedicated his career to championing excellence in forensic science management. He has trained professionals at UC Davis and West Virginia University, developed succession planning strategies, and pioneered best practices in performance management. As a Certified High Performance Coach and Lean Six Sigma Blackbelt, he continues to share his expertise through his company, CEO Authority.

During his tenure with the American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors (ASCLD), Gialamas served as President and a Board Member, playing a pivotal role in responding to the National Academy of Sciences' landmark 2009 report. His leadership helped shape foundational policy documents that continue to guide forensic laboratory management and standards today. He also served on the Consortium of Forensic Science Organizations (CFSO) and contributed to the White House Subcommittee on Forensic Science.
