CLEVELAND - Aug. 21, 2024 - PRLog -- The Metal Building Manufacturers Association (MBMA) has added to its a library of free, downloadable resources for architectural students and their professors. Its newest publication is, "The Milne Center for Ocean Science and Conservation." This 20-page folio explores the design and construction of a unique metal building that serves an integral role with the world-renowned Mystic Aquarium in Mystic, Connecticut. The folio, along with all the MBMA resources, is available at https://www.mbmaeducation.org/resources/.

"This is the 10th release in the Architectural Significance in Metal Buildings series, which was created for architectural faculty and students to learn about metal building systems and their extraordinary possibilities," says Tony Bouquot, MBMA general manager. "Each publication analyzes the design goals, priorities, and outcomes for that facility. The newest folio delves into the goals, design and construction of this incredible oceanic education and research center."

MBMA created the Milne Center for Ocean Science and Conservation folio in coordination with Capital Studio Architects, Carlin Construction and the Mystic Aquarium. It includes:
  • Exclusive interviews with architect David Holmes, Mystic Aquarium's Keith Sorensen, and members of the construction team.
  • Project design insights for the 18,000 square-foot metal building that features a welcoming, easy-to-navigate education center for students of all ages and an open, flexible space for animal care and research.
  • Objectives and goals for the project, including preventing leaks, increasing roof life, enhancing energy efficiency, improving aesthetics and engineering for transporting heavier loads.
  • Abundant photos, drawings and graphics that illustrate phases/elements of the design and construction process.

In addition to this folio, the complete Architectural Significance in Metal Buildings portfolio consists of: Alamo Beer Company in San Antonio; the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley, Massachusetts; the Michelle and Barack Obama Sports Complex in Los Angeles; the Haulover Marine Center in North Miami Beach, Florida; the Jacksonville University Basketball Performance Center in Jacksonville, Florida; the Arbogast Performing Arts Center in Troy, Ohio; the Firehouse Ministries Shelter in Birmingham, Alabama; the St. David's Performance Center in Austin, TX, and the Hardesty Center for Dance Education in Tulsa, OK.
