One scholarship per year will be awarded to a first-generation student who chooses to attend a technical school, university, or earn a certificate that furthers their career goals. A second annual scholarship will be focused on first-generation graduate students. Editor World's scholarship program was established in 2023. More than 1,000 applications were submitted by students living throughout the United States. Applicants were asked to include an essay discussing what motivates them to pursue a certificate, degree, or other education. The winner of the inaugural award was selected in early 2024. Our inaugural first-generation student scholarship winner, Harris, is a non-traditional undergraduate student who worked for several years after high school. She earned a certificate in commercial music after which she decided to pursue further education. Harris earned an associate degree in the Spring of 2023 and is now a strategic communications major at the University of Houston. She has made the Dean's list twice while working multiple jobs and participating in internships. Harris will be the first in her family to earn a college degree.
