ESHER, U.K. - Oct. 26, 2023 - PRLog -- Earlier in the year there has been a submission to REACH (EU) with reference to the long term effects of PFAS chemicals (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances). Our Prosolv® range of products does potentially contain a small amount of chemicals that could be classified as a PFAS.

There are approximately 5,000 PFAS in use in a wide variety of applications and many more products that contain one of the 5,000, these are found in a variety of common commercial products like cosmetics, apparel, carpeting, sealants, microchips, non-stick kitchen ware and fire-retardants. Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large class of thousands of synthetic chemicals that are used throughout society. They all contain carbon-fluorine bonds, which are one of the strongest chemical bonds in organic chemistry. So almost all fluorinated solvents would come under PFAS. If they banned everything under PFAS today they would need to ban toothpaste.

Coming back to the Prosolv® range of products, the definition of PFAS for the proposed restriction is still under discussion and not yet fully defined.

Here at EnviroTech Europe we have assurances from our chemical suppliers that using the definition as given in the current PFAS restriction proposal our products are NOT classified as a PFAS and not restricted by any regulations. I can assure you we are keeping a close eye as events unfold and planning for every eventuality.
