A study estimates climate debt owed by the global North to the global South to be a staggering 170 trillion dollars, reflecting the North's historical dominance in fossil fuel production and consumption. This issue is compounded by the disproportionate burden of climate change impacts borne by the populations of the global South. Global North nations are then urged to overhaul the climate finance framework, granting developing countries control over their development agendas, and involving civil society in decision-making processes to ensure transparency and the implementation of effective solutions. CPDE champions development effectiveness within climate finance (https://csopartnership.org/ The platform argues that working towards a just transition requires funding projects, movements and institutions that put people and the planet over profit, adopt a feminist-based approach, and commit to leaving no one behind - all key pillars of development effectiveness principles.
