It's berry season! Let's celebrate!

HINGHAM, Mass. - July 12, 2023 - PRLog -- Blueberry cobbler. Strawberry shortcake. Blackberry pie. Blueberry muffins. Strawberry limeade. It's not only summer, but it's also time to celebrate berries! If you're a fan of those sweet, juicy summer treats, you'll love the July issue of Food Gardening Magazine!

Did you know that naturally growing berries were some of the first foods that early humans foraged, using them for food, preserving them for sustenance through the winter, and creating medicines with the leaves, fruits, and roots of many berries.

Berries also feel like the quintessential early-summer fruit. While we don't have to forage like our early ancestors did, there's nothing like the sweetness of a strawberry still warm from the sun or a blackberry picked and eaten right from the bramble.

Blueberries, strawberries, and blackberries aren't the only berries, either. One of the articles you'll find in this month's edition of Food Gardening Magazine is The Best 10 Berries to Grow in Your Garden. We'll explore boysenberries, cranberries (no bog necessary!), and some berries that might be new to you, such as honeyberries and gooseberries.

Naturally, you'll find some lovely summer recipes, too. Savory, sweet, breakfast, dinner, and even a few tantalizing summer beverages are all here. Plus, we'll jump into the herb garden with the Herb Garden Collection Kit. This kit explores ideal garden companions for different herbs;  common culinary uses for each of these herbs, from Mediterranean cuisine to Southeast Asian dishes; and even more delightful recipes. Who could say no to Feta and Olive Bake with Thyme, Dill Seed Braided Bread, or the Walnut-Rosemary Crusted Salmon?

In all, you'll find four featured articles, four mouth-watering recipes, a downloadable Herb Garden Collection Kit, and explorations of our three featured plants: Blueberries, Strawberries, and Blackberries. And, as always, there are some additional delightful recipes in store from the gardening guides highlighted in this issue.
