That Whitney Houston warm-up suit: little known but interesting anecdote in history

MIAMI - Jan. 12, 2023 - PRLog -- It was 1991 and the clock was ticking down to the perhaps the greatest rendition of the National Anthem, ever. Singer extraordinaire Whitney Houston wanted to look amazing on the stage to perform at the Super Bowl. She nailed it. But, a warm up suit?

Whitney went to her local tennis store, Biscayne Tennis. The owner, Steve Federico of Miami's legend-in-its-own-rights tennis store, leapt up from his seat to help. Whitney was firm, definitive, and knew exactly what she wanted. How to find the perfect USA themed outfit buried among jammed hanging racks in a funky tennis store stuffed with expensive merchandise?

Federico assured Whitney that he had the perfect all-American red, white and blue outfit in mind!

It was hidden among the pages of an Ixpa sportswear catalog. Federico flipped pages to the Jamie Sadock designs -- one of the hottest sportswear designers at that time!

Whitney was in a jam and wanted her suit ASAP! Federico aka Biscayne Tennis placed the order for an overnight rush job. Ixpa said they couldn't deliver it in time. Federico said "Whitney Houston" and "Super Bowl" in the same sentence. There it was...rapid, overnight delivery. There was no Amazon back then.

As a precaution, two sizes were ordered. Off Whitney went into a tatty mousehole of a fitting room in a store frequented by the famous and wealthy. It was love at first sight and there, my friends, is the story of the legendary warm up chosen by Whitney Houston as a walk-in to an elite tennis store with a rabid following that was known primarily by those "in the know!"

Biscayne Tennis is now closed, but the Founder and Owner, Steve Federico, is still in the game stringing rackets, playing champion level table tennis and learning pickleball!
