Fall Fanatics Can Explore More in the LBI Region

Beach weather is sweater weather when the fall months hit the Long Beach Island Region of the Jersey Coast.

SHIP BOTTOM, N.J. - Sept. 23, 2022 - PRLog -- The charm that the Pines and the salt air bring together a legendary season with breathtaking views, fall activities and memorable getaway. LBI Region roads lead to extraordinary places, on foot or by bike go deep into the pines. Start at the Barnegat Branch Trail.  This "rail-to-trail" project follows the abandoned Barnegat Branch Division of the Central Railroad of New Jersey. The trail will be constructed in several phases. In your travels on the trail, you'll encounter many information signs about Points of Interest or Historical Reference. Looking for a picture-perfect picnic place. Wells Mills has the distinction of being the largest park in the Ocean County park system with over 900 acres of pine and oak forest. Miles of hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty can be found along with a nature center. Set time to enjoy Bike trail, canoe rentals, conservation area, fishing, open playing fields, picnic area, playground, restrooms. One of the most iconic NJ stops is the Barnegat Lighthouse, which is reappearing after a summer of restoration. Everyone should take time to experience this free state park with boardwalk and jetty, complete with an Interpretive Center.

For those who love to fish, or just want to find out more, the longest running Surf Fishing Tournament in the state kicks off this October, as the 68th LBI fishing Classic brings together local bait and tackle shops, fishing enthusiasts and first time competitors looking to catch Striped Bass, Blues and Kingfish. Tournament runs through Dec 11. This fishing tradition comes loaded with prizes and bragging rights. The Southern Ocean Chamber of Commerce Land & Sea Guide, is digital as well as in print offering its Passport to LBI. This popular program brings cultural and environmental organizations together encouraging people of all ages to explore the diversity of LBI, so they can appreciate it and preserve it for generations to come. This free program can be started at any time by picking up the guide, scanning a QR code and visiting the sites including following a Giant Clam Trail hand painted by local artists, exploring museums, as well as attending events that are scheduled throughout the island year-round.

Of course, our region is full of local experts that can assist with Stand-Up Paddle boards, canoe, kayak and bike rentals. Shops stocked with gear to complete any hiking, birding or fishing excursion. Restaurants, bakeries, breweries and markets filled with seasonal specialties to enjoy while taking time to celebrate autumn.
