Brad Elward has been a military aviation writer since 1997, authoring 14 books and many of articles for notable publications around the world. He has written extensively about the Navy Fighter Weapons School and was granted unprecedented access to the school and its graduates for this book, allowing him to interview over 450 alumni and former instructors, as well as visit the school on many occasions.

This Aviation Book is a hardback with 704 pages that includes over 95 color and b/w photos of TOPGUN's progression throughout the decades to the present day.
