Indoor Air Pollution from Cooking Discussed in New Online Video

"Using a wood, gas or electric stove indoors without adequate ventilation can create indoor air quality issues," said Paul Cochrane, President of Cochrane and Associates and the IAQ Video Network. "Wood and gas stoves can introduce carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) and particles into the air. Any type of stove heating oil, fat and various other food ingredients, especially at high temperatures, could also release compounds such as acrolein into the air. Fortunately, using a range hood vented outdoors, or other forms of effective ventilation, can help to reduce these exposures.
