DoTBook: KritiKal Solutions Codevelops a Refreshable Brailley Display for Visually Challenged

DELHI, India - June 11, 2021 - PRLog -- A giant innovation in itself, a panacea for specially-abled individuals, kritiKal Solutions in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, Wellcome Trust - a biomedical research charity based in London, U.K. has developed a cost-effective and highly reliable Refreshable Braille Display, known as 'DotBook'. KritiKal Solutions played a vital role as the technology partner of this state-of-the-art ideation based on shape memory alloy (SMA).

This standalone and portable device with a user-friendly and ergonomic design enhances the quality of life of visually impaired people when it comes to reading digital content. DotBook (https://bit.ly/3vgkION) supports Bluetooth/USB/ Wi-Fi interface which is compatible with multiple devices such as computers and smartphones.

This assistive device has an inbuilt Perkins-style keyboard that helps the visually impaired to easily read, type, and file management on the device. This has come as a replacement for the traditionally used Peizo braille cell-based system with SMA based RBD system. The refreshable braille display is simple, cost-effective which is easy to use. One of the major advantages is that it slashes down the associated costs, which translates into one-seventh of that of the commercially available displays which bridge the solid line between the digitally available content and the incapability to access by the visually challenged people.
