CALGARY, Alberta - Jan. 25, 2021 - PRLog -- Certified Health Care Aide assists nurses and other members of a health care team in the basic care of residents and patients. Primarily, health care aides assist with and provide personal care and other daily activities that are necessary to ensure patients maintaining their maximum potential for independence and self-direction.

The Health Care Aide certification program utilizes the Government of Alberta's provincial curriculum. It covers a variety of healthcare essentials, including caring for patients with chronic or complex illnesses, medication delivery and special activity planning.

Certified Health Care Aides can find employment in a variety of health care facilities, including long term care facilities such as nursing homes, elderly health care services, retirement homes, group homes, hospice centers, and also in private homes by home care visiting agencies and private individuals.

Students who have graduated as health care aides can pursue their career in a vast variety of healthcare professions. They can be employed as health care aides for elderly people in long term care facility, and retirement homes. They can also work in hospitals and different mental health unit with patients.

Admission Requirement
  • Grade 11, 20-2 level course, with a minimum score of 60% achieved or Canadian jurisdiction equivalent; or
  • English 20-1 with a minimum of 60% achieved or Canadian jurisdiction equivalent; or
  • English 30-1 or 30-2 with a minimum of 55% or Canadian jurisdiction equivalent; or
  • Deemed equivalent by completion of ACCUPLACER (assessment placement test)
  • Note: Students who have not completed the ELA, 20-2 level requirement and achieved the minimum grade are subject to completing the ACCUPLACER assessment test. This can include students out of province, out of country or mature students that have been out of school for a significant length of time.
