The Practical Nursing program will prepare students for careers as healthcare professionals where they will be able to care for patients in a variety of professional settings including hospitals, nursing facilities, physician offices and in-home health services. The Practical Nursing certificate can be completed in as few as 12 months, preparing students for the NCLEX-PN exam and an entry-level career as an LPN. Carrington College prepares students to take appropriate certification and licensure exams related to their individual majors. Students will learn about direct patient care, assessment, diagnostic measurements, procedures and treatments. This hands-on clinical training enhances the learning experience and allows students to develop a work history while completing their studies. The program allows students to further their studies in a real-world medical environment. "We are pleased to see the successful Practical Nursing/Vocational Nursing program expand beyond the Boise, San Jose and Sacramento campuses," said Campus Director at Carrington College in Albuquerque, Dena Garcia. "Licensed practical and vocational nurses are critical to enhancing patient-care outcomes. Expanding the program to our Albuquerque community will help us embrace the opportunities of an ever-evolving healthcare field," added Garcia. "We are serving and supporting these communities by helping them meet the demand for well-educated nursing professionals." According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of licensed practical and licensed vocational nurses is projected to grow 9 percent from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations. As the population ages, the need for healthcare services is expected to increase as LPNs and LVNs will be needed in residential care facilities and in-home health environments to care for older patients.
