LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Dec. 2, 2020 - PRLog -- As an environmentally-focused nonprofit that traditionally plays host to a slew of community cleanup and recycling events over the course of the year, COVID-19 has taken quite a toll on Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful's event calendar. Finally, on November 7, Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful (GC&B) teamed up with Gwinnett County Department of Water Resources (DWR) to play host to its annual Great Gwinnett Wetlands event – seven months after its originally scheduled date. One week later, the nonprofit and its event partners at Gwinnett County Solid Waste Management hosted America Recycles Day at Coolray Field – a nationally-observed day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and buy recycled products.

"We were thrilled by the turnout at both events and were particularly appreciative of everyone's commitment to remaining safe and socially distanced," said Schelly Marlatt, Executive Director of Gwinnett Clean & Beautiful. "Both events went smoothly and – as always – my team and I were amazed by how much we were able to accomplish in such a short time.  We are incredibly thankful to our event partners, vendors, volunteers and participants for the role they played in making both events such great successes. Because we've had to postpone or cancel events altogether, it felt so good to be out there among our neighbors for a few precious hours two weekends in a row. Now that we've got a solid social distancing event model in place, we're looking forward to a far more 'eventful' 2021. There's a constant need for environmental stewardship in our community – pandemic or not. Every piece of litter we pick up or item we recycle goes a long way in protecting our environment, beautifying our community and diverting items from our landfills."

The results are in…

Great Gwinnett Cleanup 2020: Over the course of just 3 hours, the GC&B and DWR crews teamed up with 55 volunteers to collect 193 bags of litter, eight tires, a sofa, box springs, fire extinguisher, shopping carts, furniture and more totaling 9,650 pounds of trash from Bromolow Creek & Wetlands.

America Recycles Day 2020: Within the span of five hours, GC&B, Solid Waste Management and 17 volunteers gathered 4,763 gallons of latex paint, 28.13 tons of electronics and 28.14 tons of paper for shredding from 1,692 vehicles.
