Keaton-Barrow received the designation of New Construction Specialist from the National Association of Independent Builders and Real-Estate Services – a credential designed to raise the industry's base knowledge in identifying, nurturing, and leveraging market opportunities for residential building.

Jim Pesavento, founder of NAIBRS, created the designation to increase new residential construction understanding in the REALTOR® community. "From my travels in many states, we found there was a lack of core courses that teach agents the nuances of new construction. 50% of homebuyers are open to new construction homes. If the agent, who is the trusted advisor, is not armed with the details of building a new home, it does the homebuyer a disservice. Our organization decided to create the course and designation because one of our three core missions is to educate the market," he notes.

Keaton-Barrow, who has a long history in the industry in both Raleigh and Charlotte, sees the designation as a tool to help her buyers. "Most traditional real estate instruction doesn't address many aspects of new home construction – whether that's helping clients secure specialized financing, acquire property, navigate the process of working with an architect and builder, or all the nuances that accompany this process. Having the designation gives my clients the added confidence of knowing that their REALTOR® is equipped to walk them through what can be an intimidating process," she notes.
