Daughters of Punjab: A story of Resilience, Dignity and Persistence

CHANDIGARH, India - March 11, 2020 - PRLog -- Overcome and Become: Portraits in words of Five Heroic Punjabi Women depicts the journey of five resilient, undefeated and inexplicably glorifying women who were the epitome of pride for this country. The history is familiar with these women, as they are no ordinary women. They believed in themselves and because of which many women now dare to believe in themselves too. They are none other than Surinder Kaur a famous Indian singer and songwriter, Amrita Pritam an Indian novelist, poet, and essayist who wrote in Hindi and Punjabi, Dr. Kiran Bedi who was the first female Indian Police Service (IPS) officer, an social activist and now the current Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, Dr. Inderjit Kaur, head of the Pingalwara organization, social activist and awardee of Padma Bushan and last but not the least Amrita Shergil, an eminent Hungarian-Indian painter and a "pioneer" in modern Indian art.

Once upon a time, there were five little girls who believed in themselves and in the women they wanted to be. One fine day they stood gazing at the fragmented remains of their wings smashed by the patriarchal society. Calmly they observed the broken, blurry pieces that silently glittered on the ground. And yet they felt so proud of their reflections and shadows that smiled back at them. Society, by all means, could chop off their wings but their spirits were indomitable. And though these women with a spine of steel, at times could be broken, but could never be defeated.

It's a saga of confidence, courage, and compassion. It's a tribute and salute to the Daughters of Punjab.
