CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Feb. 24, 2020 - PRLog -- CLC (Charity League of Charlotte) has created Hubs in two Charlotte Mecklenburg elementary schools, Sterling and Hidden Valley. CLC created a new mission to impact the lives of Charlotte children by inspiring them to bridge the opportunity gap and achieve a positive future through education and total wellness. This new mission took the direction of creating the Hubs.

CLC Hubs are located in schools with the highest homeless and poverty rate and are stocked with items requested by the principal, teachers and social workers at the designated school. Items provided to the Hubs include clothing, hygiene items, educational supplies and more. They are working now to expand the program to other schools. An upcoming Spring Tea Fundraiser, along with requests for corporate grants, will help fund future Hubs.

"I just want to say thank you to everyone. CLC has been such a wonderful group to offer such extended support to my staff. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much!" Daniel Gray, Principal of Hidden Valley Elementary.

"Charity League of Charlotte has generously donated time, organizational skills and monetary contributions by establishing a HUB at our school. Volunteers come by every couple of weeks and organize our clothes closet and re-stock items that are needed. It allows students to have the comfort and confidentiality of receiving new, clean clothes, whenever necessary. They are also working with our Media teacher on scheduling our next book fair and getting book donations for the school. We are grateful for all of the support the CLC provides to our school!" said Dr. Emily Miles, Principal of Sterling Elementary.

2019 CLC Impact Summary
• More than 6,000 volunteer hours served
• 1,307 books given to students
• 3,931 Charlotte children served
• 48 new coats provided in 2019 to children without a winter coat
• Over 600 Visits to the CLC Hubs for hygiene items, clothes, and other basic needs
• 865 uniform tops and bottoms provided for students without a uniform to wear to school

Along with providing volunteers to maintain the Hubs, volunteers work with school principals and teachers to support their needs, such as providing literacy enrichment through funded author visits and book fair support. Also a music-based literacy program to six prekindergarten classrooms at Winterfield Elementary, and instruments to their K-5 music program, along with a music enrichment program at Hemby Children's Hospital. In addition, CLC provides STEM learning materials including toys, puzzles, and manipulatives, to the Greater Enrichment Program that offers afterschool care in five high-poverty CMS schools.
