The Operalicious Cookbook
LOS ANGELES - Feb. 11, 2020 - PRLog -- The Operalicious Cookbook has created menus designed to immerse yourself in the food of opera. Travel to Egypt with Aida to feast on Kofta and Fattoush, to Spain for Sangria and Paella with Carmen and the Southern US for Fried Chicken with Susannah. Recreate the historical opera dishes of tenor, Enrique Caruso with his Naples Style Bucatini and Risotto from composer Giuseppe Verdi. Also included are Opera Singer's Favorites, Opera Buffs Obsessions and Opera Sweets with a synopsis of each opera to round out your gastronomic opera listening sessions.

Conceived by Sylvia Volk, a lifelong opera devotee and activist with baritone, Wayne Line and Nickel City Opera's Eileen Breen compiling and editing. Through tireless research, Sylvia compiled recipes from historical opera dishes and conceived the idea of complete menus surrounding each opera. Ten years in the making sorting through mounds of research, Eileen approached Wayne for his help in adding recipes and putting a true opera polish on the menus.

Opera has always been associated with food. Falstaff's bill at the Garter Inn included six chickens and thirty bottles of sherry. In Macbeth, a sumptuous feast is prepared for the banquet scene where Banquo's ghost appears. Cafe Momus plays predominantly in La Boheme as the characters dine on sausage, wine and a "poem" of chicken. Hansel and Gretel provides a feast of enticing sweets and Elixir of Love and The Marriage of Figaro have grande wedding feasts.

Sylvia did her research.."It's not just the characters that like their food - composers and singers have favorite dishes and entrenched beliefs about what to eat. Mozart loved sweets, Wagner dabbled in vegetarianism (http://www.ivu.org/history/europe19b/wagner.html), Verdi (http://www.roh.org.uk/people/giuseppe-verdi) was a farmer who grew his own food, Rossini (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gioachino_Rossini) cooked risotto while he composed (and was almost as lauded for his recipe compositions (https://www.sfcv.org/article/top-10-alla-rossini-recipes) as his musical ones), Caruso (http://www.roh.org.uk/people/enrico-caruso) ate spinach and chicken livers for strength and Luisa Tetrazzini (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Luisa_Tetrazzini) ate everything!". Before her passing, Sylvia worked tirelessly researching the cookbook that she and Eileen were developing. She would be so happy to know her passion project has finally come to fruition.

Opera Singer Wayne Line learned to cook out of self defense since his mother was not a very good cook. "I always wanted a cookbook that had meal plans. In our cookbook you can make a complete meal tailored to the theme of your favorite opera! Singing is my passion and cooking is a hobby, what better way to bring the two together than an Opera Cookbook! Cooking and opera..a perfect combination!"
