PRLog -- Let wistful melodies and enlivening tunes penetrate your heart this Valentine's Day! "The Best of Broadway: Jazz and Other Classics" will be performed by the Bernadette Garza Duo on Saturday, February 8, at 7 p.m., at St. Joseph Center, 1501 S. Layton Blvd. (Greenfield Ave. at 27
th St.) in Milwaukee. All are welcome to this Valentine's Day tribute--sponsored by the School Sisters of St. Francis on their south side campus—celebrating songs of faith, hope, and love.
Mezzo-soprano Bernadette Garza and pianist Kimberly Mandelkow will transport us back to more gallant and elegant days, reviving spirits dampened by the winter blahs. You'll hear classic tunes like "On the Street Where You Live" from
My Fair Lady, George Gershwin's "Someone to Watch Over Me," Nat King Cole's "L-O-V-E," and many more. Aspiring Fred-and-Gingers are welcomed and encouraged to cut a rug on the dance floor throughout the program.
Ms. Garza performs throughout the Chicago area as the lead vocalist for the variety bands 4
th Beat and Déjà Vu. She has been a featured artist for Uptown Underground's live jazz series and a regular on other series as well. In addition to her jazz career, she has enjoyed portraying both lead and other significant characters in such operas as
Carmen, Madama Butterfly, and
Ragtime. She graduated with a master's degree in voice from the Chicago Conservatory of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and brings more than a decade of professional showmanship to the stage.
Bernadette will be joined on the piano by her longtime friend Kimberly Mandelkow, who, too, is a woman of many talents. Not only does Ms. Mandelkow have a degree in music and religion from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota, but she also has a master's degree in pastoral theology from Indiana's St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology. Kimberly is a former Benedictine sister and now serves as the Archdiocese of Milwaukee's Director for the Office for Worship.
