Publix Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon Presented by Colavita Celebrates 15th Year on Jan 26, 2020

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - Jan. 6, 2020 - PRLog -- Known for its gorgeous beach location, flat course, unique medals and fun after party, Publix Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon Presented by Colavita will celebrate its 15^th year on January 25-26, 2020. The two-day event features a Marathon, Half Marathon, 5K and Kid's Race, with more than 7,000 runners, joggers and walkers expected to participate. The starting location for the Marathon and Half Marathon is 401 SW 2^nd Street, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312; the finish is at 1100 Seabreeze Blvd., Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316.

"I am beyond excited to celebrate 15 years of the Publix Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon Presented by Colavita in 2020," said Matt Lorraine, owner of Exclusive Sports Marketing, Inc. "The original concept was to utilize the beautiful backdrop of the ocean, palm trees and sun in Fort Lauderdale and host a fun and enjoyable weekend of racing. And we still have the commitment to put on a successful, safe and fun event every year."

In year one, just 500 people participated. Since then, Lorraine and his team have changed the medal design every year; the 2020 medal design will feature a Loggerhead turtle with a hinge that folds down, revealing the 15-year anniversary. About half of the participants are local South Florida residents; the other half come from out of town and state.

Marcela Todd, 48, of Davie, will run for the fifteenth consecutive year – being a part of the event every year since it started. This year Todd will an official pacer and will be joined by over 100 "teammates," who participate in her "Friends in Training" program, which was created more than 20 years ago to get people off the couch and ultimately change lives one step at a time.

"I have been running the Fort Lauderdale A1A event for 15 years – 13 of which I have been an official pacer for other athletes – and I've never seen a sunset that is the same. We are so blessed to be able to train and race here, and I feel very lucky," said Todd.

For the fifth year, Susan G. Komen® Miami/Fort Lauderdale in partnership with the Fort Lauderdale A1A Marathon and Half Marathon will present the Run for the Pink 6K where 100 percent of the proceeds benefit Komen's local affiliate.

The weekend's schedule is as follows:
• Saturday, January 25, 2020: 7:30am Fort Lauderdale A1A 5K
• Sunday, January 25, 2020: 5:45 am start for Wheelchair Participants; 6:00am start for Marathon & Half Marathon; 6:30am start for Komen's Run for the Pink 6K
