CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Nov. 22, 2019 - PRLog -- As the temperatures continue to drop, winter weather is on its way. This brings with it a different set of precautions and preparations for the HOA than the summer. It's a good idea to get everything in place now before snow, ice, and freezing temperatures settle in. In a new statement to the press, Kuester Management Group highlights several areas the HOA should pay attention to in order to enhance winter safety.

"The first place to start is getting your HVAC system serviced," says Bryan Kuester, President of Kuester Management Group. "Have a professional check to ensure everything is operating safely and effectively so the clubhouse, offices, and other HOA facilities stay warm. Members should be encouraged to do the same for their homes. It's better to make repairs now before the unit stops working in the middle of a deep freeze."

The association should also have a professional inspect pipes and apply insulation or repair any cracks or leaks, says Kuester. A small crack can become a much bigger issue if the pipe freezes, expands, and then breaks. In addition, double check that irrigation systems have been shut off and lines have been flushed to help prevent damage to pipes.

"Although the Carolinas don't tend to receive too much snow, winter weather is unpredictable," explains Kuester. "Review any snow removal contracts to verify they still meet the needs of the community, and talk to providers to understand the terms of service and how they respond in the event of a storm. Relay this information to homeowners as well so they know what to expect."

It can also be a good idea for the HOA to keep some shovels and salt on hand to spot treat sidewalks and walkways around common areas to reduce the risk of someone slipping and falling. Also, place rugs inside entryways along with wet floor signs for when people track snow and water into the building.

In addition to supporting day-to-day activities, Kuester Management Group works with HOAs to put winter weather strategies and plans in place and ensure that service providers are meeting expectations.
