| All Saints Leonia hosts Bishop Carlye J. Hughes for Evensong, Sunday, Nov. 3 at 5pmCelebrating 125 years of faith, love, and service in the community
In the Anglican tradition, Evensong is a musical version of the Evening Prayer service. Services of Evensong are centered on readings from the Bible, chants, and singing of the psalms. All Saints choir, comprised of members of the congregation and their guests, and the cantor, Anita Lyons, will be featured in beautiful hymns and anthems as will organist and choir director, Euntaek Kim. This is Bishop Hughes first visit to Leonia. On May 19, 2018, Bishop Hughes was elected as the 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Newark on the first ballot. Upon her consecration on September 22, 2018 at NJPAC, she became the first woman and African American to serve as bishop of this diocese. In the richly diverse environment that is Northern New Jersey, Bishop Hughes vision for the Diocese of Newark as a hub and network of support for those seeking a loving, compassionate, and just way of life. All Saints was founded on Nov. 1, 1893 and has worshipped on its present site on Park Avenue between Broad and Grand Avenues since 1896. The Rev'd Dean Weber has served All Saints since 2002 and is the eighth rector. Throughout its history, All Saints has welcomed local organizations such as the Leonia Players Guild, the Leonia Chamber Musicians, other congregations, and most recently, Leonia Arts, to use its Hall. The church's Child Care Center, founded in 1956, has supported generations of children and families from Leonia and the surrounding communities.
