All Saints Leonia hosts Bishop Carlye J. Hughes for Evensong, Sunday, Nov. 3 at 5pm

LEONIA, N.J. - Oct. 28, 2019 - PRLog -- The Rev'd Dean Weber and the congregation of All Saints Episcopal Church, Leonia extend an invitation to attend Choral Evensong on Sunday November 3, 2019 at 5:00 pm to dedicate its newly renovated Sacristy and celebrate 125 years of faith, love, and service in this community.  The Rt. Rev'd Carlye J. Hughes, the Bishop of Newark, will officiate.  The church is located at 150 Park Ave., Leonia.  A free will donation to support music at All Saints will be accepted.  A festive reception will follow.  All are welcome.  The church is handicapped accessible.  Please call the office at 201-947-1233 for more information.

In the Anglican tradition, Evensong is a musical version of the Evening Prayer service.  Services of Evensong are centered on readings from the Bible, chants, and singing of the psalms.  All Saints choir, comprised of members of the congregation and their guests, and the cantor, Anita Lyons, will be featured in beautiful hymns and anthems as will organist and choir director, Euntaek Kim.

This is Bishop Hughes first visit to Leonia.  On May 19, 2018, Bishop Hughes was elected as the 11th Bishop of the Diocese of Newark on the first ballot.  Upon her consecration on September 22, 2018 at NJPAC, she became the first woman and African American to serve as bishop of this diocese.  In the richly diverse environment that is Northern New Jersey, Bishop Hughes vision for the Diocese of Newark as a hub and network of support for those seeking a loving, compassionate, and just way of life.

All Saints was founded on Nov. 1, 1893 and has worshipped on its present site on Park Avenue between Broad and Grand Avenues since 1896.  The Rev'd Dean Weber has served All Saints since 2002 and is the eighth rector.  Throughout its history, All Saints has welcomed local organizations such as the Leonia Players Guild, the Leonia Chamber Musicians, other congregations, and most recently, Leonia Arts, to use its Hall.  The church's Child Care Center, founded in 1956, has supported generations of children and families from Leonia and the surrounding communities.
