OurSeniors.net Welcomes the Volunteers for Community Impact Organization
By: OurSeniors.net Magazine
Volunteers for Community Impact is an umbrella organization that is dedicated to promoting volunteerism in greater Orlando and Central Florida. Serving the Orange, Seminole, Osceola and Volusia County areas, Volunteers for Community Impact organizes volunteers who give anywhere from a few hours up to thousands of hours of unpaid service each year. The VCI motto is "WE IMPACT LOCAL COMMUNITIES IN CENTRAL FLORIDA!"
Founded in 1974 and formally known as Florida Senior Programs, Volunteers for Community Impact has grown continually since its beginning. Today, VCI sponsors and oversees the Foster Grandparent Program (FGP) of Central Florida and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). These two groups provide community services that range from mentoring young children to providing support to families in hospital settings, packaging meals to assist with local hunger projects and helping to solve homelessness issues.
VCI helps seniors and the greater community in two ways – they deliver services directly to seniors in need and, at the same time, provide seniors with a way to remain active and engaged through volunteerism.
